Discount Notebooks

by Norene Anderson

Discount notebooks can save you a lot of money over retail prices. If you are comparing prices, make sure you are looking at products with the same specifications. One of the first things to consider in buying a notebook is the processor (or CPU). There are several to choose from including the AMD Athlon 4, AMD Athlon XP, Intel Celeron, Intel Celeron D, Intel Centrino, Intel Pentium 4, and many others.

Another consideration is whether you want a brand new notebook or if a refurbished notebook will do. Factory refurbished notebooks generally carry the same warranty as a new one. You should verify this to be sure on the particular model you are considering. If you are buying used, always ask why the computer has been returned and refurbished.

Accessories can make a big difference in pricing. Some of the choices include CD, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-RW, and CD/DVD/CD-RW. The choice you make should depend on whether or not you want to read and write (RW) to a CD or DVD. For instance, if you are only going to watch movies on the laptop, a DVD program will work fine. If you are going to save information from your laptop to a disc, you will need either a CD-RW or DVD-RW.

Discount Notebooks for Anyone

Screen size is another major factor in the price. The screen sizes available in discount notebooks are from 13 inches or smaller to as large as 17 inches. The most common size is the 14- to 15-inch size. There are advantages to both extremes. The smaller screens usually afford a much lighter weight notebook. The larger ones are great if you need two programs open side-by-side. The disadvantage to the larger ones is the weight.

Other things that should be carefully compared are the operating system, amount of memory, and the size of the hard drive. It is possible to find a great deal on discount notebooks. Do your homework and a thorough price comparison, and you can save a lot of money on a notebook computer made just the way you like it.
