Financial Advice

by Erin Jones

There is a good reason that discount brokers have popped up and stockbroker commissions have been cut across the board. In short, investors are sick of paying high commissions and watching their investments drop. Many investors are adverse to paying commission fees and are now moving to find new sources of reliable financial data, like independent financial newsletters and other investment publications.

Good Financial Advice

The difference between good and poor financial advice may result in you retiring on time or having to work another 10 years. There is really no need to quantify this. Most investors understand that having a good advisor is priceless. Therefore, if you can find a good source of quality, unbiased data, you should jump on the bandwagon.

The reason that financial newsletters have become so popular is because they are often provided by former industry professionals who don't receive commissions for the advice. They do have vested interests, however, in making sure that you make money so you'll continue to subscribe to the newsletter. Independent advisors will often charge flat fees for their services, which completely removes any commission incentive. This is a huge benefit for investors.

Finding good investment advice is important for any asset class that you are investing in. Having quality mutual fund and bond investment advice is just as essential as having good stock trading advice. Many mutual fund investors neglect the fact that mutual funds need to be actively managed as well. There are professionals that have developed a good record of picking the best investments in various asset classes. If you invest in different asset classes as part of a balanced portfolio, you'll want to find an advisor who can support you in all of those areas.
