Stair Supplies
Stair ManufacturersStair manufacturers can deliver handcrafted, gorgeous staircases for your home or office. Of course, it's important to develop detailed stair plans in your architectural drawings, since creating room for a staircase after the fact can be quite costly. Indeed, even fitting a prefabricated staircase into a non-customized stairwell can prove prohibitively expensive. To make stair installation easier, leave plenty of headroom above your pitch line. For domestic staircases, you should leave at least two meters of space above the pitch line--for industrial staircases, you may be required by code to leave even more space. You can talk to your manufacturers to design extra headroom by lowering the pitch angle of the steps. Manufacturing Staircases from ScratchThat being said, you don't want to lower your pitch angle too much. The rise of each step should be around seven inches--220 mm for a private dwelling staircase and no more than 150 mm for a public building staircase. You should take care not to pitch your staircase so shallow that it's uncomfortable for people to walk up the rises. A pitch of less than 25° is considered by most to be uncomfortable. Manufacturers can provide guidance about which accoutrements to attach to your balustrade. You can dress up even the most pedestrian staircase with wooden details, such as ornate newels, hand hewn handrails, and double balusters. The geometry of stair assembly and repair can get quite complicated, so don't be shy about talking to your manufacturer about installation guidelines. ![]() Get all Building Supplies articles via
