Staircase Suppliers

by Andrew Kozlov

Staircase suppliers equip home construction enthusiasts and contractors alike with the parts necessary to do staircase repair. Some suppliers also sell pre-assembled staircases, such as circular staircases, mini stairs, spiral staircases, and the like. They can also order or design balustrade systems to coordinate with your current or future staircase design.

In order to make sure that your staircase suppliers give you what you want, it may make sense to take a picture of your staircase in its current state of construction. Oftentimes, home carpenters will define the parts of their staircases incorrectly, and thus they'll receive the wrong parts from the suppliers. For instance, many carpenters conflate individual balusters, otherwise called spindles, with the balustrade, which is technically defined as the entire handrail system.

Requesting Staircase Supplies Intelligently

Most staircase suppliers will be able to give you a price quote over the phone or via e-mail. However, if you're doing contemporary staircase construction, or if you're attempting to repair a valuable classic staircase, you may want to call in a contractor for consultation first. Bear in mind that, while balustrade assembly may look simple to the uninitiated, it's a very involved process.

Another way to work with your staircase suppliers is to take copious measurements of your staircase. In addition to measuring the general rise and run of the staircase, you should measure the headroom. That's the distance between the ceiling and the pitch of the staircase (the theoretical line connecting the nosing of your steps).
