Subaru Brake Parts

by Andrew Kozlov

Standard brakes come either with a disk/disk configuration or with a disk/drum configuration. While most Subaru models utilize standard disk braking, some newer models--particularly cars designed for racing or high-speed driving--utilize more advanced parts. If your breaks are worn out, or if you're merely looking to upgrade to quality parts, you may want to consider high-performance brakes.

High-performance Subaru brakes differ from standard disk brakes in several crucial ways. One, they employ compounds to work under high-speed conditions. These compounds only really make a difference when you're driving and braking at high speeds. To optimize the performance of your brakes, you may want to install Carbotech brake pads--specifically Bobcat pads, which are designed for street use.

The Advantages of Performance Subaru Brake Parts

The second critical difference between standard and high-performance breaks is whether or not your pedal has holes or slats. Manufacturers perforate high-performance brake disks so as to allow for faster and more even heat dissipation. Again, this perforation feature is only important if you drive your vehicle at very fast speeds.

Finally, high-performance breaks are able to stop quickly even when cold because they are backed up by state-of-the-art brake fluid, like Motul 600. This brake fluid maintains its viscosity at a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The cold braking feature afforded by advanced brake fluid is good for street racers and city drivers alike, in that it enables you to stop on a dime.
