Subaru Performance Tuning

by Andrew Kozlov

By finely calibrating your Subaru engine, you can generate far more fuel efficiency and turbo power. At first blush, the cost of upgrading to Subaru performance tuning may seem extravagant. Yet when you extrapolate how much money you'll likely to save as a result of improved fuel efficiency, the numbers should make the investment seem more worthwhile.

Consider the following hypothetical. Let's say that your Subaru performance tuning upgrade costs you around $300. If that upgrade saves you three mpg, and you drive on average 18,000 miles per year, you can save 30 gallons of gas or more per year. Assuming that gas remains priced around two dollars per gallon, you automatically save $60 a year. In just a few years, therefore, you will more than make up the price of the tuning upgrade in fuel efficiency alone.

The Math of Subaru Performance Tuning

This is to say nothing of the performance you'll get out of your engine once you fine-tune it. Better tuning also means reduced emissions and less damage to the environment. This is particularly useful if you live in a state, like California, that holds vehicles to strict emissions standards.

At the end of the day, extracting a strong performance from your Subaru shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. There are plenty of fine online performance parts dealers, and you can read the postings of Subaru mechanics and owners online to determine whether tuning is right for your vehicle. Make sure to upgrade all the appropriate systems, so as not to create an asymmetry in your performance.
