Study English In Toronto

by Felipe Gomez

Torontonians are proud to tell visitors they share their home with the world's tallest tower. If you agree to it, they will invite you to walk along the world's longest street. They also like to boast that more people live in their city than in the combination of the four Atlantic provinces in Canada.

When I lived in the American Midwest I once crossed the border into Toronto and spent a few days staying in the dorms of one of its large and prestigious universities. This beautiful city, whose name is Huron for "fishing weir," is located on the shores of Lake Ontario. I remember in particular the warmth of its people and how radically different its atmosphere seemed when compared to the one in neighboring Detroit.

A Great City

Much of what makes Toronto a great city, I believe, is the large immigration of people coming from all over the world into a respectful and tolerant habitat. This translates into a large base of highly-skilled, educated, and multi-lingual people who make the city move. No wonder Toronto is also Canada's financial capital, housing more national and international businesses than any other city in the country.

If you're traveling to Toronto in order to study English, you might very well arrive into either of its two airports. Once there, you will certainly be surprised by its transportation system, the largest one in North America after New York's. And don't worry about what to do in your spare time. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of possibilities to visit museums, art galleries, architectural monuments and cultural events. The best part of it is that you will be able to enjoy all this while still practicing your English.
