English Language School

by Felipe Gomez

So you are looking for a language school. The amount of choices is likely to overwhelm you. Where do you start looking for a language school that suits your needs? Well, first of all, you must have those individual needs clearly defined.

Defining Your Needs

Are you looking for a place to learn the basics of the language? Do you need to brush up your knowledge and skills? Are your needs rather technical: are you looking for a Business English course or one that matches your career and interests? Are you in need of preparation for the TOEFL or the TOEIC?

Defining these needs should be the first step in your search for an adequate language school. Next, you should think about where you want to study. Would you rather study in your home country, or in an English-speaking country? Balance your options and weigh the advantages and disadvantages.

Finally, pay close attention to what the school offers you. Some schools only deliver the content of their language courses. Others complement these programs with a broad variety of mandatory and optional activities aimed at enriching the learning experience. Some of them will offer housing possibilities. Look into their resources.

What kind of qualifications do their teachers have? Do they have a library that you can borrow materials from? Are there enough computers and internet connections to ensure all of their students will be able to take advantage from them? As you go through the list, you'll certainly arrive at more questions. Ask those questions at the English school of your choice. Make sure what you are offered meets all your needs.
