Study English In Canada

by Felipe Gomez

Studying English in Canada is not difficult. However, if you are coming from abroad you will likely have to complete some paperwork and fulfill a few requirements. This may take a few weeks of preparation. The process will be basically the same regardless of the city or school of your choice.

From Application to Arrival

First of all, you will need to contact the school of your choice and fill out their application form. You will then need to mail or fax this application, though some schools also allow you to do this online. Along with the papers, you will need to pay for the application fee, which will range anywhere between 50 and 200 Canadian dollars.

Once accepted into the school, you will receive a notice and an invoice. This is usually sent to you via email. The next step will be for you to pay all or part of the invoice. Credit cards, wire transfers, and international money orders are the preferred modes of payment. Schools need to do this to have a minimum guarantee that you will be studying there, and to make the necessary arrangements to have you with them.

After they receive your money, a letter of acceptance will be issued. This letter is one of the documents you will be required to produce at airport customs or at the Canadian consulate in your country if you need to apply for a visa. Individuals from most countries do not need a visa to enter Canada for less than six months, but for a longer stay you will need a student permit.
