Mental Health Treatment

by Katie Klein

Over the years, it has become increasingly evident that modern medicine may not be all it's cracked up to be. It has come to the attention of many healthcare professionals (for physical as well as mental health, especially in the Western world) that there may be a better way to help their patients. Some of the alternative forms of mental health treatment that are being rediscovered have been around for much longer than modern medicine.

One of the reasons that alternative forms of mental health treatment have become so popular in recent years is that it has been found, again, that there is a connection between the mind, the body, and the spirit. If one is ill, all other components will be affected. In the same regard, if one is healed, the others will be affected in a positive way.

Health professionals of both the body and the psyche are becoming much more aware of how important it is to have the whole person in sync. It may be more important to treat the complete person than it is to treat one symptom, in order to achieve the maximum results. Many healthcare professionals are finding that, when treated with a combination of modern technology and alternative forms of mental health treatment, their patients respond better than with only the traditional treatment.

Techniques to Try

Aromatherapy: The sense of smell is foremost in healing when using this technique. Oils and flowers, as well as plants and herbs, can be used to help relax, to ease pain, and to aid in many other areas of mending a broken spirit.

Laying on of hands: The power of touch is used by a healer as he or she gently puts her hands around the affected part of the patient's body and first fluffs or pats the aura. Then, gently, yet firmly, with healing power coming through her hands, transfers healing energy to the other person.

Art therapy: Music, drawing, painting, and writing can all be sources of relaxation and meditation to aid in bringing a sense of serenity and wholeness to a soul in need of relief. In allowing a person to express himself creatively, it allows him to see that he is valuable and, therefore, may feel more confident in his life, being able to let go of problems that he may be having.
