Big Bear Cabins

by Edoardo Ballerini

Rental cabins are the staple diet of travelers to Big Bear Lake. Ranging from modest to extravagant, lodgings can be a simple place to sleep or a luxurious chalet including a hot tub overlooking the lake. It all depends on your budget and needs.

Bear in mind (no pun intended) that weekend rates differ from weekday rates. If you are looking for a particularly good deal, many rental companies often offer "packages" that will include activities and coupons. Most accommodations will come with the bare minimum of towels, linens, a television and fireplace. More amenities and better views lead to higher prices.

What You Get, When You Get

The seasons play a big part in cabin rentals, as winter guests will want to be near the slopes, and summer guests will want to be nearer the lake. As almost all of the property in Big Bear Lake is reserved for tourism, the search for the perfect place can be a bit daunting. But keeping a few items that matter to you on the checklist should ease the process.

In addition to the above considerations, be sure to ask how many the cabin "sleeps." There may be two bedrooms, but the living room may have two pull-out couches for the kids. Also important to consider are the cooking facilities if you plan on eating in during your stay. If traveling with a pet, make sure your cabin is "pet-friendly."

If you're looking to buy a cabin, there are many available. But like most parts of California, Big Bear Lake real estate has been hot in recent years, and the prices have soared accordingly. A popular option among those looking to buy is a time-share, in which the cost (and time, of course) is shared with others.
