Island Honeymoons

by Wendy Jackson

Many couples are refusing to settle for the usual honeymoon a few hours away from their home. Many are looking for something different and more exotic and are choosing to honeymoon on an island. The reasons that couples choose to honeymoon on an island are as diverse as the couples themselves. However, the main reason seems to be the opportunity to enjoy the culture and flavor of another country while having the exclusivity and privacy that an island provides.

Island Honeymoons Offer Something for Everyone

The many islands of the South Pacific are regarded as the top destination spot for honeymooners. Honeymooners have their choice of the larger, more populated islands to choose from, or the smaller, less inhabited islands. Regardless of the size, each island guarantees that a honeymooner's stay will be memorable.

A common activity for couples visiting the South Pacific is there participation in a lavo feast. This is a Fijian way of cooking that is as enjoyable to watch as it is to eat. Food is wrapped in foil, and surrounded with palm leaves. These leaves are placed in the ground and baked in underground pits. Most resorts hold these special feasts a couple of times a week, and it is a popular dining experience. Honeymooners also gravitate toward the native dance shows that are a part of the Fijian culture. Excitement builds as island natives play instruments, sing, and dance in their traditional customs. Many honeymooners soon find themselves drawn into the rhythm and join in.

Island vacations can be as diverse as the areas they are located in. Performing dome research on the Internet or through a local travel agent can supply couples with a list of exciting possibilities for their honeymoon. For the budget-minded couple, all-inclusive packages are available that often provide significant discounts.
