Fiji Vacation Packages

by Wendy Jackson

Many individuals are choosing to add a new touch to their vacation packages to the South Pacific. These individuals are interested in learning about the culture and workings of an island on a daily basis. Resorts in Fiji are expanding their services to offer this educational experience to their guests.

Fiji: Off the Beaten Path

One activity that is a favorite among guests is to visit a working farm or plantation. Most islands that receive good rainfall will have farms where they grow coconuts, tapioca, or taro. Many guests delight in the experience of walking through massive groves of fruit trees, watching the harvest and sampling the foods.

Other guests like to tour native communities, interact with the people, and purchase native handiwork. In Fiji, the communities are divided up into units. Family units are referred to as yavusa, who trace their lineage back to a single ancestor. The smallest groups in a village are called tokatoka, usually encompassing blood relatives. These families make up villages. Villages are divided into districts, while districts are part of a province.

Couples or families that are planning to vacation in the South Pacific need not settle for the same water activities day after day. Don't forget that there are many things to do besides playing and relaxing on the beach. Let your travel agent know that you are looking for something off the beaten path and they will make all the arrangements for you to experience all that the islands have to offer.
