San Diego County Realtors

by Sandy Mitchell

San Diego County, located at the southern end of California, is home to a variety of interesting, culturally-rich communities. The weather is temperate and beautiful with an ever-present ocean breeze. Sports, art museums, the world-renowned San Diego Zoo, San Diego's Old Town, and the Gaslamp district are just a few of the exciting things to do there. Outside of town, white sand beaches and acres of pristine park land give residents plenty of places to get out and enjoy the weather.

Living in San Diego

The communities of San Diego country: Oceanside, Del Mar, Chula Vista, La Jolla, Encinitias, not to mention San Diego itself offer a variety of housing options. From luxury oceanview condos in downtown San Diego to rolling, rural ranches in North County, with everything in between, San Diego County has many styles of homes from which to choose.

The City of San Diego is made up of many diverse neighborhoods. There is Cortez Hill, one of the oldest and most distinguished neighborhoods in San Diego. Here condos overlook the bay, Balboa Park, and downtown. Horton Plaza, downtown, offers convenient living adjacent to offices, shopping, and restaurants. Just south of downtown and connected by the San Diego trolley is Chula Vista, a charming community with a large marina, dockside seafood restaurants, and sweeping ocean views.

Outside of San Diego, the oceanfront communities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, and Encinitas offer a quiet, casual lifestyle with quaint, understated, beachfront hideaways. Inland communities, such as San Marcos and El Cajon are experiencing a housing boom. Scores of new condos and single family homes have attracted young professionals and families to these growing towns in the last five years.

Finding the Perfect Home

With all of these choices, how does a buyer find the house of his dreams? A good place to start is on the Internet. MLS (multiple listing search) services allow buyers to view a property from the comfort of their home or office. Virtual tours, pictures, or even videos give prospective buyers a true feel for the home. Room dimensions, information on property taxes, extra amenities, and HOA fees are frequently listed.

Making sense of all this information can be made easier by teaming up with a real estate agent. For buyers, a good agent can pre-qualify you so that you know how much house you can afford. Most can also offer insights into the area not available on a web page.

For sellers, a good real estate agent can make sure the people looking at your house have the means to buy it, which avoids wasting your valuable time. She can also give you ideas for sprucing up your property to make it most attractive to buyers. A real estate agent makes a good partner, from preparing forms to negotiating terms of the sale. It's good to have a professional on your side.
