Carlsbad Real Estate

by Sandy Mitchell

Carlsbad is a seaside community of about 73,00 residents, 30 miles north of downtown San Diego. Nestled between two lagoons, Carlsbad is a natural way station for birds migrating up the coast. Originally settled in the 1880s, Carlsbad today is a mixed-use community, with homes and small businesses thriving side by side.

Carlsbad is home to the La Costa Resort and Spa. Its deluxe facilities, seven restaurants, golf course and spa draw visitors from around the world. Also of interest in Carlsbad are the flower fields that erupt with hillsides of Ranunculus blossoms each April and May. Carlsbad Village is home to the main shopping area, and beautiful, serene beaches attract visitors year round.

At Home in Carlsbad

Carlsbad real estate is pricey. Ranging from the low $300,000s for a one-bedroom or studio condo to over $9 million for a beachfront estate, Carlsbad caters to the wealthy. Many of the properties here are grouped in developments, many built within the last ten years.

Condos in Carlsbad tend to be low-rise buildings of one to four stories. Southwestern style is common with stucco exteriors and red tile roofs. A popular design features townhouses with one common wall, an attached garage, and private patio. Lots tend to be very small in this area. Condo developments generally offer facilities such as a community pool, BBQ area, and tennis courts.
