Del Mar Real EstateThe city of Del Mar is a small town trying to stay tranquil despite being a part of the fastest-growing segment of San Diego County. Just 26 miles north of downtown San Diego, Del Mar is also home to trendy shops, casually elegant seaside restaurants, and interesting art galleries. Shopping centers around the Mediterranean-inspired Del Mar Plaza, a village-like complex with panoramic views of the Pacific as well as chic dress shops, gourmet restaurants, and great people-watching. Del Mar is a small community. Its 4,500 residents live in just two square miles nestled along the ocean. The major tourist draw here is the Del Mar racetrack where thoroughbred horses compete from mid-July through September. Early in the summer, the racetrack is home to the popular, month-long Del Mar Fair. A Seaside GemBecause of its small size, demand for property in Del Mar far exceeds the availability. Pricing for housing here reflects this demand. Prices for single family homes and condos here range from the mid $300,000s for a studio condo to over $9 million for a beachfront estate. Most of the property offered here is either from the mid 20th century or is new construction. The newer houses are mostly of a southwestern style with stucco exteriors, stone patios, and decorative ironwork. The older homes are, generally, more traditional with clapboard siding, dormers, and mullioned windows. Pools are de rigeur here, and many developments offer tennis courts as well. ![]() Get all California Real Estate articles via
