Downtown San Diego Condos

by Sandy Mitchell

San Diego is delightful. The temperate climate, ocean views, and casual lifestyle make it an ideal place to live. Increasingly, the address of choice is downtown San Diego. Over 9,000 homes are located in the downtown area, most of them condos. High-rise condo buildings, historic lofts, and charming townhouses built in the last decade have made downtown living a reality for thousands. And the development continues.

Most downtown condos are centered in three areas. The Marina district by the waterfront and the convention center offers high-rise condos, many overlooking the ocean. The Gaslight district, the historic 19th century neighborhood with charming high ceilings, hardwood floors, and floor-to-ceiling windows, is home to charming restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. Little Italy, the funky, artsy neighborhood on the north side of downtown stretching from West A Street to the airport, offers renovated lofts as well as newly constructed condos.

Condos For Every Taste

Condos in downtown San Diego come in all shapes and sizes, from 700 square foot studios to over 4,300 square foot three-bedroom suites, and everything in between. Styles of homes vary tremendously from high-rise apartments to townhouses to lofts. Some are sleek modern buildings; others are charming restored buildings. Prices start in the low $200,000s and go up from there.

Amenities also vary widely as do the corresponding homeowner association fees. Indoor and outdoor pools, parking, Jacuzzis and steam rooms, health and fitness centers, and rooftop decks are frequently offered. Some larger, more deluxe buildings offer concierge services, and some buildings offer services in the building, such as dry cleaning, grocery stores, and restaurants. There is a downtown condo to match every style in San Diego.
