Solana Beach Real Estate

by Sandy Mitchell

Solana Beach, located 21 miles north of San Diego, is a lovely seaside community of approximately 6,300 families. First developed in 1923, Solana Beach, named for the Spanish word for sunny, offers peaceful beaches, eclectic shopping, and that beautiful southern California weather. Bisected by Highway 5, Solana Beach is easily accessible from points all over Southern California.

Solana Beach, incorporated in 1986, is a relatively upscale community with an average household income of $65,000. Many residents here are professionals, business owners, or corporate executives. Just a short drive from San Diego, Solana Beach offers the cultural activities, shopping, and sports of a large city while maintaining its small town atmosphere.

Living in Solana Beach

Most of the homes in Solana Beach are detached, single family homes, although some condos are available. The lots here are larger than those normally found in Southern California, but they would seem small to those relocating from other parts of the country. Real estate prices in Solana Beach range from the low $300,000s for a one-bedroom condo away from the beach to over $4 million for a detached single family home with an ocean view.

Condos in Solana Beach are, generally, townhouses with one common wall and a private, attached garage. Many of these townhouses are southwestern in style, with stucco walls and red tile roofs. Amenities vary. Common design features here are private patios and cathedral ceilings. Almost all offer central air conditioning and many developments offer a community pool.
