Vista California Real Estate

by Sandy Mitchell

Living is easy in Vista, California, 30 miles east of San Diego and just 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. This lovely town of approximately 94,000 residents has a large Hispanic population and that heritage is reflected in the arts and architecture here. Vista has lots of green spaces, quiet streets, and friendly neighbors.

Vista's history is depicted in its housing and storefronts. Central among them is the Santa Fe/Mercantile Corridor Revitalization Project, a plan that has given new life to Vista's downtown shopping district. The storefronts here, mostly from the 1950s, have been given a new look and this district is, once again, brimming with shoppers.

Affordable Homes

Owning a home or a condo in Vista, California is more affordable than in some of San Diego's other communities, particularly the beachfront communities. Median housing prices here are just over $200,000, low by Southern California standards. The majority of the housing available here was built between 1960 and 1980.

Many of the condos offered in Vista are townhouses. Stucco exteriors are popular with many units offering wood-burning fireplaces and enclosed patios. Community features such as a swimming pool, tennis courts, and activity center are also common. Single family homes here vary enormously, from quaint arts and crafts-style cottages in town to large properties with acreage and horse barns outside of town.
