Solana Beach Homes

by Sandy Mitchell

Tucked between Encinitas and Del Mar is the quiet, seaside community of Solana Beach. This upscale town of just over 14,000 residents, primarily comprised of white-collar workers, offers a peaceful place to live in a beautiful setting. Originally settled in the late 1880s, development in Solana Beach didn't take off until after World War II. Since then, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s, the number of housing units and the prices have grown steadily.

Beachfront Bliss

One of the most idyllic places to live in San Diego County is along the beach in Solana Beach. Homes along this stretch vary considerably. With prices ranging from the hundreds of thousands to over $4 million, the only thing these luxury homes have in common is the awe-inspiring, panoramic view of the azure blue Pacific Ocean.

The average price for a beachfront home in Solana Beach is approximately $750,000. Dwellings range from a spacious 5,000 square feet to a more compact 1,000 square feet. Lots are generally small here with large houses occupying most of the lot. Architectural style varies from sleek modern design to Art Deco to southwestern to Arts and Crafts-inspired homes.

A beachfront home is the ultimate California luxury, and Solana Beach offers excellent choices. From beachfront condos in low-rise, modern buildings to detached single family mid-century homes, these homes are as individual as the people who live in them. Pools, hardwood floors, wood-burning fireplaces, and private beach access are just some of the amenities found in these one-of-a-kind beach hideaways.
