Poway California Real Estate

by Sandy Mitchell

Poway, a sleepy community of around 50,000 residents, located about 25 miles northeast of San Diego, was named by the Indian tribes who used to live in the area. Poway was first developed as a stagecoach stop along the Southern California route. Today, it is a family-focused town, which offers residents nearly 3,000 acres of dedicated parkland, golf, tennis, and that beautiful Southern California climate.

Attractions in Poway include Old Poway Park, a site featuring restored, turn-of-the-century buildings, walking trails, a restaurant, gazebo, and a historic working locomotive. Also nearby is the Blue Sky Ecological Reserve, a pristine canyon set aside for wildlife. A performing arts center in town offers a regular schedule of both community and professional entertainment.

Peaceful Poway

Most of the housing in Poway was built after 1960, much of it in the last ten years. In fact, the first housing development here wasn't started until 1959. Housing prices in this community are moderate by Southern California standards, with the median house value at $284,000. Available real estate in Poway ranges from large, multi-bedroom estates to one-bedroom, 900-square-foot condos.

Condos in Poway can be a good investment. Generally, less expensive than single family homes, many of the condos in this area are newly constructed. Mostly built in developments with a community club house, pool, and even tennis courts, condos here are perfect for families. Lots can be small, but Poway has plenty of parks in which to enjoy the sunny Southern California weather.
