Native American ArtThe paintings of Native Americans, if done with accuracy, are pictorial recordings of their history and culture. A bit of controversy surrounds the ideas of what true Native American art is. There is the art created by Native Americans themselves, and then there is the art of artists who are inspired by Native American culture, but are not actually Native American. Whichever side you take on the true definition, the visual and emotive stimulation that individual works of art give you is all that really matters. In the 19th century, there were many artists who traveled across the land to capture its raw beauty. Many of them came across Native American peoples, spent time with them and painted portraits or landscapes of their everyday life and activities. Some artists painted the Native Americans as savages, but others respected their culture and attempted to capture their way of life that was quickly being taken away from them. Some paintings of Native Americans educate us on the variations of tribal costume styles, houses, pottery, jewelry, bone structures, personality characteristics, geographic locations, and way of life. Symbolism is of great importance in some Native American cultures. Some paintings capture the stories and beliefs that have been passed down from generation to generation. Animals have always been important to Native Americans. Many paintings include buffalo, wolves, bear, horses and eagles. Celebrating Native American Culture and ArtThe beauty of the Native American cultures can be embraced when you hang art depictions of them on your walls. Native American prints can add a sense of mysticism and cultural tradition to your home. Some of the prints we have here at Cover Your Walls immortalize ancient tribal traditions and practices that have since been forgotten about, lost or are simply unknown to the busy and hectic world of today. ![]() Get all Posters articles via
