Framed Wall Art

by Christina Williams

The right frame can add an extra aesthetic appeal to a piece of artwork. Well made prints can either have a smooth glossy finish or they can be textured to look like the original painting on canvas. Some prints are done as canvas transfers to achieve this effect. Cover Your Walls does a texturing technique with acrylic that makes the print look like an oil painting. A beautiful frame around a textured print only adds to the fine overall quality. However, a nice frame can also do a lot for posters as well.

Whether you decide to purchase high quality prints or posters for your wall art, you should take into consideration the frames around the art when you add them to your decorating plans. One of the easiest ways to work art into your interior design is to make a room by room plan. Take the living room, for example. This is the area of the home where your family and friends gather to simply hang out together, celebrate birthdays and holidays or to relax in front of a movie or by the fireplace.

The framed art you choose for the living room should complement your color schemes and emphasize the strong points of the space you have. However, it should also reflect the things you love and the feelings and moods you enjoy expressing. You may want to consider abstract styles, still life art, landscapes for a formal living room. If the space is more of an informal den area, vintage prints, surrealistic pieces or western art may be perfect choices.

Tips for Decorating with Framed Art

For the living room area, framed art can be hung in several different places. Some ideal choices include above mantles, between windows and above sofas and chairs. If you have high cathedral size ceilings, large framed art can add amazing effects to your living room. You may also want to consider placing a framed print on an easel in a bare corner of the room for interesting dimension. When you hang the prints, you will want to position them at eye level for an average sized person.
