Hotels Near The Port Of Miami

by Sandy Mitchell

Called the "Cruise Capital of the World," the Port of Miami is located on Dodge Island between downtown Miami and Miami Beach. The Port of Miami is homeport to 18 cruise ships, Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise Line ships among them. In 2003, four million cruise passengers departed from Miami to ports in the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and beyond.

The Port of Miami has the largest, state of the art terminals in the world. Modern check-in facilities, easily accessible parking, and plentiful porters made Miami an easy port to navigate. Eight passenger terminals handle cruise ship passengers.

Staying Near the Port

You can get the most out of your cruise vacation by staying a night of two in Miami before or after your cruise. Eliminate the worry of missing your flight and consequently your cruise by arriving a day early. That way, you don't have to rush off the ship only to sit at the airport for hours. Instead, you can relax on the beach and leave the next day. Downtown and Miami Beach hotels are minutes away from the port by taxi.

The Art Deco District of Miami Beach makes a scenic and exotic beginning to your cruise vacation. A great option would be to stay in one of the beautifully restored Art Deco masterpieces across from South Beach. Stroll along the boardwalk; people watching is one of the best things to do in Miami Beach. Or, you may simply want to dine al fresco at one of the dozens of chic restaurants along Ocean Drive. Miami Beach is "America's Riviera," so it's always nice as the start of your vacation.
