Hotels Near Miami Airport

by Sandy Mitchell

Located west of downtown Miami, adjacent to I-95, Miami International Airport is served by 48 airlines flying to over 150 destinations. In 2004, over 30 million passengers departed or arrived at Miami International Airport. It is the third busiest international gateway in the United States.

Getting to and from the Miami airport is easy. Plentiful taxis travel the five miles to downtown Miami or the seven miles to Miami Beach. Car rentals are also available and affordable due to the stiff competition for cars in South Florida. In addition, the "Metro-Mover," a monorail, operates from the airport to downtown.

Staying Near the Airport

If your flight is departing early in the morning or if your flight arrives late at night, it's sometimes easier to stay as close to the airport as possible. In Miami, this is easy. The Miami International Hotel, a 260-room facility, is located right inside the terminal. However, be aware that you will definitely be paying extra for this convenience.

Just off the airport grounds, there are dozens of hotels in all price ranges. There are a number of familiar chain hotels as well as smaller, independent hotels within a mile and a half from the airport. Shuttle buses departing from the baggage claim areas make it easy to get back and forth to and from hotels in the area.
