Travel To Miami Beach

by Sandy Mitchell

The nearest airport to Miami Beach is Miami International Airport. The twelfth busiest airport in the country and third in international passengers, Miami airport is served by 72 airlines flying non-stop to 144 destinations in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, South America, Mexico, and Europe. Miami International Airport is located just ten miles west of Miami Beach, adjacent to I-95 and other major traffic arteries.

Arriving and departing Miami International Airport is easy. Taxis are plentiful and located just outside the baggage claim areas of all terminals. It takes approximately fifteen minutes by taxi to reach Miami Beach from the airport.

Rental cars are also available and useful for more in-depth exploring in South Florida. Eighteen car rental firms are represented at the airport. Registration counters for many of them are located in the baggage claim area of the arrival terminals. Customers check in there and are taken by shuttle bus from the terminal to the rental car lot.

Miami Beach Trains, Buses, and Automobiles

Miami Beach is easily reached by car from all over Florida and beyond. Highway I-95 is just ten miles away from Miami Beach. For a more scenic route, take A1A along the Atlantic coast. From the west coast of Florida, the Tamiami Trail ends right at downtown Miami and is just a few minutes away from Miami Beach.

Greyhound and Amtrak both offer service to Miami. Amtrak train service connects the cities of the East Coast with same-train service all the way to Miami. Travel time from New York City to Miami is approximately a day and a half. Greyhound also connects Miami with cities throughout the country. Buses arrive in Miami's downtown bus terminal on NE 10th Street. From there, it is just a short cab or local bus ride to Miami Beach.
