Pay Per Click Banner Advertising

by Shirley Parker

Some advertising services specialize in pay per click banner advertising. They don't even offer regular banner advertising on their network of sites. Their rationale is that you, the client, want results and are willing to pay a little more and get more targeted visitors. The latter will be more likely to purchase your software, legal services, travel assistance, insurance, artwork, piano lessons, and so forth.

In some cases, you will pay less for a pay per click advertising campaign than for a regular banner advertising campaign. Try to find at least three or four services, so you can compare rates. Large banner ads (600 x 400 pixels) may cost you 20 cents per click, with you paying $50 upfront. Each click draws against that payment until the maximum 250 is reached.

A standard or medium sized banner (480 x 68 pixels) or a small banner (150 x 150 pixels) might cost 10 cents per click and you'd pay $25 upfront for the same 250 clicks. If your small business's budget allows, you can pay more upfront for a lower rate per click. One hundred fifty dollars will cover 1,000 clicks on your large advertising banner, working out at 15 cents per click. Or you can pay $60 upfront for 1,000 clicks on your medium or small banner, working out at six cents per click.

Getting a Banner

Most advertising services require that you provide your own banner in the specified sizes and graphics format. However, many also provide the option of designing one for you, for a price, perhaps $50. Most companies will neither accept nor provide banners considered offensive in any way to their audiences.
