Rent Musical Movies

by Devin Flanigan

Movie musicals engage and entertain in ways that few other artistic forms can. They combine exciting stories, great acting and wonderful songs into packages which few other than the most cynical can resist. Among the best-selling classic musical movies are Singin' in the Rain, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music and South Pacific.

For decades, it seemed that movie musicals were going out of fashion. Indeed, the classic Broadway musical-to-film adaptations practically disappeared from theaters. However, in place of those classic flicks emerged new musical film forms, such as the Baz Luhrmann take on Romeo and Juliet and two hilarious movie parodies written and produced by the creators of the South Park TV show.

Musical movies make great rentals because they encourage repeat viewing. What child can resist listening to repeat performances of Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins singing "a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down?" What college kid doesn't want to play the South Park duet between Saddam Hussein and Satan repeatedly for the pleasure of his hall mates?

Renting musical movies is easy thanks to online DVD subscriptions services. These services work by encouraging you to set up a list of priority rentals. When these movies become available at the distribution center, the company ships them off to you. You can watch them until the corn is as high as an elephant's eye and then return them for free in the provided envelope mailers.
