Alienware

by Ivan Gale

Founded in 1996, computer company Alienware takes its extraterrestrial motif and raises it to a whole new level. There is the Area-51 series of PCs and laptops, named after the famous area of urban legend where the government is said to have found and housed aliens. Along these same lines, the company offers another line of products called Roswell. Then there are the computers themselves. Their desktops, strange as this might seem, actually bear a certain likeness to the stereotypical alien face popularized by Hollywood films.

Clearly, the company has put a lot of time and thought into how to have fun with its image. It seems to have paid off. They are a popular choice for computer game lovers looking for a gaming machine with the right combination of power, speed and value. Their laptops and desktops receive kudos for design. The company itself touts the bundling and routing of its wiring design, saying it allows for optimal airflow and reliability.

Alienware Takes the Alien Motif to New Levels

Another thing this Miami, Florida-based company boasts about is its upgradability. It uses non-proprietary components that come standard in all machines. Alienware says its machines have a longer life because computer owners are free to upgrade whenever they want without incurring heavy charges for licensed parts.

Alienware computers come with a broad range of choices, beginning with the choice between an AMD or Intel processor. Alienware clearly chose the top-of-the-line components for its high-end machines, including efficient cooling fans that reduce the noise of the machine during use.
