Body Odor In The Office

by Tara Peris

Body odor in the office is not just a hassle or unpleasant inconvenience. It is emblematic of a bigger problem. It suggests that air in the office space is stagnant and that there is a lack of proper ventilation. In addition to being malodorous, many of these agents are rife with bacteria, mold, and fungus, substances that in turn increase the likelihood of illness or allergies.

Stop and Smell the Roses

We have all had that unpleasant experience at work. Whether we are assigned a cubicle in a less than optimal space or we simply find ourselves sitting in the wrong space at the wrong time, we have all been subjected to a co-worker's foul body odor at one point or another. Stifling our air intake and distracting us with its stench, this odor is a force to be reckoned with.

Although most of us grumble about it from an aesthetic perspective, employers and office managers have more pressing issues to consider. If you are noticing body odor in the office, it is likely the result of air that is not ventilating or circulating properly. It would be nice to crack open a window or door, but few offices are designed for this kind of cross-ventilation. Moreover, who knows what stench you will let in when you open that window anyway?

This stale, stagnant office air is problematic because it harbors germs and bacteria. This in turn increases the likelihood of illness and allergies. One of the most effective solutions comes in the form of an air filter or purifier. With just a few moments installation, it is easy to ensure fresh, clean air and to protect the health, wellbeing, and productivity of those in the office.
