Mold Removal

by Tara Peris

Your best bet for effective mold removal is to get to the source of the problem quickly. Indeed, scientists suggest that there is a very small window of opportunity before mold begins to form in wet areas. You've got 48 hours, and that's not a lot of time.

Mold Is Here, There, Everywhere

It's a strange thing to think about, but mold is everywhere. It exists indoors and out, all seasons of the year. Its tiny spores are constantly in the air seeking out surfaces to which they might bind. Critically, mold spores are attracted to water and moisture, which is why clothes left in the washing machine a bit too long quickly begin to smell bad. It doesn't take much to get these guys going.

Most experts will tell you that you can't get rid of mold entirely. There's simply too much of it. What you can do is prevent it from posing a risk in your home. Your first step is to target mold that already exists. You must thoroughly wash all affected surfaces and make sure to dry them completely. Remember, if you leave them wet, mold will rush right back in!

Keep in mind that this cleaning process may require you to ditch some prized possessions. Anything that harbors moisture should be given a critical once-over, including carpets, flooring, and even stuffed animals. Your goal is to get moisture out once and for all. Once existing havens have been tackled, you can turn your attention toward using an air filter to keep indoor air clean and dry in the future.
