Smoke Odor Removal

by Tara Peris

Removing the smell of smoke from clothing and furniture is notoriously difficult. Somehow, even brief exposure to a cigarette or cigar leaves us smelling like a stale, crusty bar scene. The odor lingers on clothing, a fresh whiff making itself evident with every passing breeze or sudden movement.

Smoke Screen: Removing Cigarette Odor Effectively

Needless to say, this pungent aroma is amplified in settings where people smoke regularly. It doesn't take long before smoke it entrenched deeply in carpets, drapes, and other home furnishings, making the entire place reek of cigarettes. It's why landlords often request higher security deposits from smokers and it's one of several reasons that smoking is restricted in many professional settings.

So what do you do to get the odor out? You could try scented candles or air freshener sprays. Alternatively, plug-in devices and incense may be of use. These tools will mask odors temporarily and, when used in a well-ventilated room, they can be very effective. These are good strategies for dealing with a one-time run-in with a smoker in your home.

If, however, smoke exposure is ongoing, you may want to consider a different approach. Specifically, you might want to consider the use of an air purifier. Modern air cleaning systems are highly effective, and some can remove as much as 95% of the pollutants in a given environment. When used regularly, they can diminish the impact of smoke and keep any room smelling fresh and clean.
