Venetian Las Vegas
Hotel On The Strip In Las VegasThe Venetian is located on the legendary Las Vegas Strip. The hotel sits on the former site of the Sands Hotel. In the 1950s and 1960s, The Sands was the "it" hotel, and often hosted the legendary Rat Pack. Once owned by Howard Hughes, the Sands was crowned Queen of the Strip. In 1996, however, The Sands closed its doors after many failed attempts to revive her to her former glory. The History of the StripA few years later, in May 1999, the Venetian opened her doors. Not only could the Venetian boast as the only all-suite hotel on the Strip, but it re-created the romance and charm of Venice, Italy. Since it is located right on the Strip, it can be visited even if you are not staying at the hotel. There are gondola rides offered through the canals, complete with an Italian gondolier. The Grand Canal is a path of shops leading to a re-creation of St. Mark's Square. The Strip begins at the Welcome to Las Vegas sign and continues for three miles. Along those three miles, you will travel through Egypt, New York, Paris, and of course, Venice. The hotels on the Strip, including the Venetian, tend to be modern and self contained. The Venetian is one of the largest hotels in the United States, and the Strip is home to most of the United States' largest hotels. If you are staying at the Venetian and would like to walk down the Strip, it is worth the walk. Many of the hotels located along the Strip provide entertainment that extends to the sidewalk. Walking or public transportation is the best way to travel; if you drive, you will be sitting in traffic, and if you take a cab, the fare will be high. There are also buses that will take you from the Strip to downtown Fremont Street, to visit the casinos of old Las Vegas. ![]() Get all Las Vegas Travel articles via
