Box Office Ticket Sales

by Alexis Leona

The box office is the original source of ticket sales for any event. Since telephone and internet sales have become so popular, the box office is often overlooked. You should consult the box office for valuable discount offers and group sales.

Box Office Basics

These days, the box office refers to the location at a venue where tickets are sold, but this has not always been the case. The exact origin of the term "box office" is uncertain. One interesting theory is that theatre admission was once collected in a box that was passed throughout the audience. Regardless of how it all started, the box office has always assumed the responsibility of selling every seat in the house.

When searching for premium tickets for an event, you should consult the box office for details about discounts and promotions. In the theater, the box office offers great last-minute opportunities to purchase up-front seats. You can enter a lottery for tickets or buy discount rush tickets. Rush tickets are seats that are unclaimed at show time. These offers are made to customers in an effort to fill the theater to capacity.

If you plan to attend an event with more than 10 people, you should contact the box office about group sales. Quantities are limited on internet and telephone ticket purchases to guarantee that the tickets are fairly distributed to the public. However, this doesn't mean that you cannot attend the event with a large group. On the contrary--the venue will be pleased to sell you as many tickets as possible. They only require you to contact the box office as a precaution against scam artists.
