Broadway Theater Tickets

by Alexis Leona

Broadway is located in New York City and it is the center of the American theater industry. Watching a theatrical production on Broadway means seeing live theater at its best. Contrary to popular belief, Broadway is not just for the privileged. In order to keep every house seat filled, theaters offer premium tickets at discounted prices for fans on a budget.

Broadway for Everyone

Reduced price premium tickets can be purchased for Broadway shows in several ways. There are periods during a show run that are lower in price, including preview dates and matinees. Some theaters offer discounted tickets to currently enrolled students with a valid ID. There may also be a limited number of seats offered at up to ½ off the regular price on the day of the show. All of this is done on Broadway in order to extend the enjoyment of live theater to those who might not otherwise afford it.

If you can afford to purchase tickets at full price, expect to pay at least $100 per ticket for the best seats in the house. Some theaters offer VIP seating at double the usual cost. The additional profit is sometimes donated to charitable foundations for the arts. When purchasing VIP seats, be sure to find out if a portion of your ticket purchase is tax-deductible. With a little planning, anyone can get great seats, even for the most popular Broadway shows.

The performance you choose can greatly affect your seating options. It is far easier to buy a great seat on a night that is less popular. Weeknight performances are the least popular and opening and closing nights are the most popular. Purchasing tickets well in advance yields the best selection of premium seats.
