DVD Replication

by Michelle Baugh

Many people would like to make a professional quality DVD, but aren't aware of the necessary steps to production. There are a variety of reasons why someone would want to make a DVD. Professional quality DVD videos are used for such purposes as training videos or as part of school curriculum.

The first step toward making a quality DVD is to prepare a budget. All aspects, from equipment rental, actors, crew, and all technical elements need to be considered. One way to prepare a budget is to use a production cost sheet. A budget is a very important part of any production, and once it is agreed upon, it needs to be respected.

Once the budget has been settled, a storyboard needs to be drafted. A storyboard is the basic overview of what the film will contain, and it is vital to the success of the DVD, and quality time should be given to developing one. Sometimes several drafts are necessary before everyone involved is satisfied. Many DVD videos have extra features which include the building of the storyboard. This can be a valuable resource for someone who has never had to draft a storyboard before.

After filming is completed, the footage is ready to be edited. There are a number of editing software packages available for private home use. Another option is to hire the services of a professional video editor. After the film has been edited, it can be rendered using the appropriate software to ensure high quality. The final product should be viewed and approved before the master copy is made. Once everything is cleared, and the master has been made, the DVD can be sent to a replication company for manufacture.
