Imprinted Promotional Products

by Ivan Gale

The first advertising agency was created in Philadelphia in 1843, and it primarily acted as a broker for ad space in newspapers. Following the birth of the advertising industry, more than 150 years later in 2001, at least one advertising giant earned more than $1 billion in sales during the Dot-Com era. This happened at a time when our economy saw a hundreds of new companies being formed, all needing exposure and advertising.

That's quite an evolution, but the advertising world hasn't stopped there. Marketing whizzes have turned to the world of promotional products--trade show giveaways, free pens and coffee mugs--to increase the public's awareness of their clients' products. They're all seeking to increase brand equity, which is defined as when a product takes on a personality of its own in the mind of a consumer.

Brand Equity and the Use of Promotional Products

Once a company has promoted its product to the point where the public knows about it, it usually follows up with a diverse stream of advertising and promotional methods as reminders. For every type of business, whatever its goal, there's a way to achieve that goal through a form of free giveaway. Imprinted promotional products, such as mugs, tee shirts, and tote bags promote business in subtle, yet effective ways.

Just by searching the Internet, it's no great task coming up with ideas for your business. For example, an agribusiness company wanted to promote its seed products to thousands of American farmers. So, the company mailed out packages emblazoned with an upbeat, inviting message. Upon opening the package the farmer heard a recording--a rooster's crow--and then found a coffee mug and an offer for a free coffee machine, provided the farmer observe a presentation by a visiting company salesman.
