MGM Grand Garden Arena

by Julie Atkin

The MGM Grand Garden Arena lives up to its name in the City of Entertainment. Seating over 15,000, the arena hosts large concerts and sporting events. In 1993, Barbra Streisand performed at the Grand Garden Arena's opening, setting the stage for future A-list performances. It was her first concert in over 20 years, and she has since gone back to the MGM Grand to perform to sold-out audiences.

Because of its size and seating capacity, the MGM Garden Arena appeals to entertainers who can fill large concert halls. Las Vegas is known for swanky lounge acts and long-standing acts like Wayne Newton, but for many years Las Vegas did not draw the huge stars. The MGM Grand, however, has hosted acts like The Rolling Stones, David Copperfield, Paul McCartney, Sting, and Barry Manilow, as well as Barbra Streisand.

The Venue

The Garden Arena is probably best known for the Heavyweight Championship fights. Throughout the year, you can find a range of sporting events at the Garden Arena. However, the most publicized and attended are the fights. If you plan to book tickets to a fight and stay at the hotel, you'd be well-advised to plan in advance and check for packages online.

Overall, Las Vegas is now a popular location for high caliber events, and the Garden Arena is often the venue of choice. The image has changed considerably over the past few years, as Las Vegas has become a home to mega superstars who perform there on a regular basis. From Celine Dion to Elton John, and from Boxing Championships to Babs, Las Vegas is filled with excitement and entertainment.
