SEO Copywriting

SEO copywriting, or search engine optimization copywriting, is a particular style of online text designed to generate more hits on mainstream search engines. As with any writing job, the copy must catch and hold the attention of a consumer. The added challenge of SEO copywriting is to create exciting copy that also gets a prominent place on any given Internet search.

While some of the same basics apply to SEO copywriting and traditional copywriting, the two should not be confused with one another. The skill sets required are slightly different. A traditional copywriter must know how to effectively describe a product so that it is attractive to humans; a SEO copywriter must write copy that is attractive to search engines.

The basic concept of search engines is that they comb through all of the text on the Internet looking for certain key phrases and words. The SEO copywriter must anticipate these target phrases and use variations of them on each webpage with enough frequency to ensure that the webpage ranks highly on a search engine. The ultimate goal of the SEO copywriter is to increase the number of consumers who visit a company's webpage.

For business owners, this style of writing is very beneficial, particularly for companies that do the majority of their business online. Consumers are much more likely to visit a website that appears higher on an Internet search. A prominent position on a search engine listing can often mean the difference between a good quarter and a lousy one.
