Buying And Selling On Ebay

by Amy Hunter

When buying and selling on Ebay, there is a learning curve that all newbies must accept. However, once you get started, you may find it hard to stop. Whether buying or selling, the most basic first step is to set up an account. The Ebay site contains step by step directions on setting up an account, and the whole process probably won't take longer than 10 minutes.

Once you have an account, you are ready to start buying and selling. Feedback is the backbone of Ebay, and you will probably want to build up some good feedback before you attempt to make any large transaction (either as a buyer or a seller). In fact, many sellers will not sell to you unless you have a certain number of feedbacks, and many buyers will be hesitant to buy from someone without much Ebay history.

Start slow, with both buying and selling. Use small transactions to build up your feedback scores. The best way to build up excellent feedback is to provide excellent service. Even legitimate complaints can affect your feedback rating, as can bland positive feedback comments that are accompanied by a good score.

If you are a buyer, pay promptly. Read the entire ad to make sure you are comfortable paying in the method requested by the seller. If the seller offers insurance, take them up on it. If you are a seller, get the item out promptly. Package the item carefully. Know how much shipping will cost so that the buyer will not feel taken advantage of. By taking a few simple steps you can build up your feedback score, and successfully buy and sell on Ebay.
