HP ComputerIn 1939, Hewlett Packard (HP, as it is known today) was founded by Stanford University graduates Bill Hewlett and David Packard. The company became well known for introducing many breakthrough electronic products, including the Hewlett Packard computer, 9100A, which is considered by many to be the first personal computer. In addition to helping lead the way for today's computers, HP also played and continues to play an important role in establishing servers, printers, and other important technological advances. Today, HP computers are regarded as some of the best and most popular types of computers sold throughout the world. Not only did the creation of HP computers and other electronic gadgets make a huge impact on the business world, but so did the company's innovative governing philosophy, called "The HP Way." By implementing this philosophy, Hewlett and Packard recognized that a company's success relies mainly on the employees that it hires. HP was one of the first companies to implement profit sharing and other benefits that are commonplace today. The business model established by Hewlett Packard is highly regarded. By the 1990s, HP computers were no longer made just for businesses, as the company sought a new market in those consumers who wished to buy home computers. In 2002, Hewlett Packard merged with Compaq, a move that was decried by many. The merger brought together two of the most popular (and largest) computer companies in the world. However, the company did not reap all of the benefits that many hoped the merger would bring. In fact, the merger brought scores of layoffs and its main proponent and the Chief Executive, Carly Fiorina, was forced to retire in May 2005. Today's HP computers range from inexpensive ones created for personal use, like the HP Pavilion and Compaq Presario desktops and notebooks, to major workstations utilized by international organizations. HP computers for homes and home businesses function using either Intel Pentium or Athlon processing systems. They also utilize Windows operating systems. HP computers can be bought directly from its website, via telephone at 1-888-999-4747, or from any major computer retailer. ![]() Get all Computer Hardware articles via
