Venture Capital Database

by Amy Hunter

When seeking venture capital funding for your company, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the steps that you must take. Luckily, the Internet and the public library provide all the information that you need to get started.

There are a variety of databases that you can use to search for the most relevant venture capital firm to help finance your business. Most databases are organized by a variety of factors. The amount of money you are seeking, what stage of development you are at, and the industry you are in all play a part in deciding what firm may be best suited for your business.

Before you even search the venture capital databases, you should make certain that your business plan is complete and ready to be submitted. Once you start moving on this project, you may find that things move quickly, and you need to be ready to proceed. Another reason to be sure your business plan is ready is that by having a well-thought-out and complete business plan, you can more easily decide what makes your company a good risk for potential investors.

When using a database to search for investors, take your time. Do not try to present to the first venture capital firm that pops up in your search field. Make a list of potential investors, and do some research on them before you ever contact any of them. Remember that the venture capital firm will be working closely with your company, and probably hold several key positions. Although it is in their best interest for you to succeed, you still want to be cautious of who you give that power to.
