Rolex Datejust

The Rolex Datejust has been one of the most popular fine watches for over 50 years. It first made its way onto the scene in 1945, and it is considered by most to be the first watch to feature a date display. The display used a special magnifying lens called the Cyclops in order to make it easier for wearers to view the date. This lens is still used in many watches today.

The Datejust is part of Rolex's Oyster Collection. This means that its band is the standard Oyster bracelet, which usually features 20mm end pieces and screws instead of pushpins. The traditional model of this watch features a white dial with Roman numerals and a polished bezel.

Datejust Designs

There are four styles of the Datejust watch. The 31mm has the traditional look. The 34 mm special edition has all of the same technical features (being self winding and waterproof up to 330 feet), but the dial is set with diamonds and it has black enamel Roman numerals on the face. The Oyster bracelet (usually 18k yellow gold) is also set with diamonds. The 36 mm version is just like the 31mm except the dial is silver.

The Datejust Turn-o-graph has a number of design options. The band can be found in steel, 18 karat pink, yellow, or white gold, or in the jubilee bracelet style. The bezel is fluted and made of steel, and it can be rotated to measure periods of elapsed time. The dial is usually silver, but customizing is often available.
