Rolex Watch
Rolex ExplorerThere are not many watches that can handle the ascent up Everest. The temperatures, winds, ice, and snow are enough to stop most minute and second hands in their tracks. The Rolex Explorer, however, has what it takes to make the climb. In fact, it was designed for that very purpose in 1953. The Explorer has kept many of the same features that were available on the first model. Over the years, though, improvements have been made to make the Explorer more durable. Also, features have been added that make the watch more functional for serious climbers whether they are scaling the highest mountains in the world or working the rock-climbing wall at the local gym. The Original Explorer and the Explorer IIThe Explorer II builds on the initial design of the first Rolex Explorer. It also maintains much of the style that makes the watch wearable at sea level. The original generally features a black dial, polished bezel, and oyster bracelet. Explorer II has the same band, but the dial is most often found in white with an engraved bezel. The bezel of the Explorer II is graduated. This, along with an adjustable 12-hour hand, makes it easier for climbers to adjust for time zone changes while they are traveling. It also makes it easier for them to monitor how much time has passed while moving from one signpost on the mountain to another. Both versions of the Explorer are extremely durable. Also, if parts should need to be replaced, they can be found through a number of distributors, many of whom can do extensive repairs on Rolexes, as well. ![]() Get all Watches articles via
