Excalibur Electronics

by Michelle Baugh

Excalibur Electronics is based in Miami and Hong Kong, although they maintain an additional six office locations in the United States. The 10,000 member staff operates 35 factories for world-wide distribution of the company's products. They rely on product ideas from their innovations department as well as from the general public.

The company offers a wide range of electronics, with a focus on sports and recreation. They offer the ABC Sports Master, a comprehensive electronic encyclopedia of sports facts, and the Monday Night Football Universal Television Remote. In addition, they promote a collection of handheld Wide World of Sports games. For outdoor recreation, Excalibur Electronics advertises a lightweight sun cabana with UV light protection for use at the beach or park, and a variety of Forever Flashlights. The flashlights do not require batteries or bulbs, and operate instead on the Faraday Principle of Electromagnetic Energy. A 15-30 second shake of the flashlight provides up to five minutes of continuous bright light

Excalibur Electronics also provides several models of handheld electronic crossword puzzles. The New York Times collection contains two models, regular and deluxe, for customers to choose from. The regular model features 1,000 crossword puzzles, touch screen technology with a built-in stylus, and an auto memory feature to save puzzles. The deluxe model contains the same features as the regular model, as well as a timer, a clue function, and a glow in the dark screen for night play. The second crossword game offered by Excalibur is the TV Guide Crossword Puzzle, with more than 400 crossword puzzles. This piece allows scoring for two users, meaning one unit can be shared amongst two people, and it contains a full QWERTY keyboard for typing in responses.

One of the more well-known Excalibur Electronics lines is the casino line. Excalibur produces a variety of handheld casino games that simulate a casino environment. All of their games come with sound effects, such as crowds cheering for a win, or moaning for a loss. Due to the popularity of the World Series of Poker on ESPN, Excalibur partnered with Harrah's casino to develop the World Poker Tour: Texas Hold 'Em Casino, which resembles the program in which card players compete for an estimated $25 million dollars.
