Excalibur LimousineThe Excalibur series of luxury cars began in Milwaukee in 1963, with the original intent to replicate the 1928 Mercedes SSK Roadster. The company evolved into Camelot Cars for Excalibur and continued producing cars until 1989. During this nearly 40 year span in business, Excalibur produced less than 3,500 automobiles as a result of stringent quality controls. Consequentially, this has drastically increased the value of automobiles created by them. Designed like classic cars but built with modern conveniences such as air conditioning and automatic transmissions, the Excalibur limousine is the only hand-crafted luxury limousine built in America. Limited to a production of only 13 cars, all built in 1989, the Excalibur Limousine is the only authentic manufactured limousine in the world. Modern limousines, with the exception of the Excalibur, are "cut and stretch" conversions of mass-produced automobiles. In addition, the Excalibur is the world's only fiberglass-body limousine. Much care was taken in the construction of all 13 Excalibur limousines. Stainless steel or aluminum comprises the entire exhaust system, grill shelf, and metal rim, to ensure they stay rust-free. All the leather upholstery, trim, carpeting and vinyl tops are custom sewn and fitted, and the dashboards are hand crafted from teakwood and imported Zebrano wood. The limousine offers a unique 360-degree access to the engine due to removable side panels, and six custom-built, all-weather wheels with stainless steel spokes are standard. The Excalibur limousine has the requisite four wheels on its body, while the other two are side-mounted as spares. Due to the rarity of the Excalibur limousine, it is highly prized as a collectible. Those vehicles not stored by private owners are used by a few luxury car companies as private transport rentals. Because the car is a limited edition, however, drivers given control of the vehicles usually must be carefully screened before the owner will permit its usage for events such as weddings or proms. ![]() Get all Hotels articles via
