California Lakefront Property

by Grace Moore

Generally speaking, California real estate is quite expensive. California lakefront property is even more expensive, given the premium put on living near the water. However, many would argue that despite the expense, owning California lakefront property is entirely worth the investment.

California is America's most populous state for a reason. In California, everything is accessible: if you want to ski, water ski, go to the beach, hike, or see great natural wonders like the redwood forests, you can. California's lakefront properties are generally accessible to a wide range of activities.

Lake Tahoe is nestled among the stunning Sierra Nevada Mountains on the border of California and Nevada. Tahoe is a hugely popular destination for native Californians, many of whom own lakefront vacation homes and escape to them as often as possible from the busy cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles. Property on Lake Tahoe is so popular because it offers not only breathtaking views, but also proximity to summer and winter activities. Jet skiing and boating are popular in the summer, and skiing and snowboarding are the popular winter sports. The Lake Tahoe area is crowded with several excellent ski resorts for winter enthusiasts.

Many of the Tahoe properties are wooden cabin style dwellings. An adorable "chalet" can offer two bedrooms and close lake access, often for as little as $600,000. If you want a home right on the water and a private dock, prices will start at around $2,000,000. Rental cabins in this area start at around $400 per day.

Lake Shasta, located in northern California, near Lake Tahoe, is also a popular lakefront destination. An undeveloped property of about 1.5 acres will cost in the vicinity of $250,000. No matter which lake area you are interested in, California has an abundance of diverse lakefront property to choose from.
