Minnesota Lakefront Property

by Grace Moore

Minnesota is called "the land of 10,000 lakes." Because there are so many lakes, Minnesota lakefront property is plentiful and diverse. Lake activities are also plentiful and diverse. On these 10,000 lakes, water skiing is one particularly popular activity. Water skiing was actually invented in Minnesota in 1922 by a man named Ralph Samuelson. Fishing is also a favorite pastime, but in Minnesota, the fishing doesn't end with the summer months. Ice fishing is a popular sport, originated by Scandinavian immigrants.

Lake Superior, one of the Great Lakes, touches Minnesota on its northeast corner. Large, comfortable, log cabin style homes prevail in this area. A 3,000 square foot home with five bedrooms and 30 acres of land can be bought for around $900,000.

If you would like property closer to a large city like Minneapolis, Kroon Lake has some lovely sites available. A modern four bedroom home, on a one acre lot, with immediate lake access, will go for around $600,000. It offers significantly less property than some of the homes on Lake Superior, and Kroon Lake is obviously much smaller than Lake Superior, but it is still a very nice opportunity if proximity to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area is what you want.

If you are looking to buy undeveloped property in a less populated area of Minnesota than Minneapolis/St. Paul, you might be interested in Mud Lake. Despite the name, it is a beautiful area. A 3.5 acre lot, right on the water, will typically cost less than $150,000. Like all of the properties available, it promises a comfortable atmosphere with immediate proximity to lake activity, whether you prefer ice fishing or water skiing.
