Treasure Island Resort

by Shirley Parker

Of the many hotel properties in Las Vegas, the Treasure Island resort (or TI) is one of the most elegant and exciting accommodations. Given a Four Diamond rating by AAA, it offers a wide variety of entertainment, restaurant, and casino options. From the Buccaneer Bay restaurant, for instance, guests can watch the Sirens of TI pirate show. Not just incidentally, this swashbuckling music and action spectacle bears no resemblance to the old pirate battles of the earlier Treasure Island resort.

For those who insist that the food be excellent before they make reservations anywhere, TI has many choices. Gourmet dining in unique and striking environments is available at Francesco's, The Steak House, and Isla Mexican Kitchen and Tequila Bar, in addition to Buccaneer Bay. For those wanting to indulge a smaller gourmet experience, nationally known coffee, donut, and ice cream establishments serve fresh specialty treats.

If casual dining is your first preference, an almost worldwide choice is available between Kahunaville, Canter's Deli, Dishes Buffet, and the Terrace Café. The Terrace Café, by the way, is open 24 hours a day. This can be a lifesaver if you've just made a long, cold drive in from the desert in mid-January, arriving well after the rest of your team has scattered, after eating their company-expensed dinner.

Four lounges are available for cocktails. Guests can take in everything from rock music and burlesque dancers to sporting events and music videos, from casino action to the pyrotechnics of Siren's Cove. Guests can relax by the pool or sign up for a tee time. TI has a shopping promenade, where retail store prices and selections range from the ultra-expensive to the reasonable and inexpensive. A salon and spa round out the choices of opportunities to relax before diving into the more high-energy activities of the resort.
