White Gold Wedding Rings

by Amy Hall

White gold wedding rings have become increasingly popular in the last few years as more and more couples are straying from traditional yellow gold wedding rings. White gold looks very similar to platinum, which is a much more expensive precious metal. While platinum remains a top choice for wedding ring sets, white gold is a not-too-distant close second.

White gold contains platinum or palladium, zinc and copper, which is what gives it its white appearance. White gold can be 18 karat, 14 karat, 9 karat, or any other karat. For example, 18 karat white gold is made by mixing 75 percent gold with 25 percent other metals such as nickel, silver, palladium, or platinum. So the amount of gold is the same but the alloy is what's different.

Diamonds and White Gold

White gold wedding rings often show off the brilliance of a diamond better than traditional yellow gold. Some people feel that the clear, silvery color of a diamond can clash with the bold yellow of gold. White gold on the other hand, seems to enhance the brilliance and sparkle of a single diamond solitaire or of many diamonds set into the band.

Fortunately, if you decide white gold is your precious metal of choice, you can rest assured that any design can be crafted to meet your expectations and wishes. White gold is a strong metal that can accommodate different styles and designs of rings and diamond settings. Whatever you're dreaming of in diamond wedding and engagements rings can be created especially for you.
